NHL overtime is great theater with one obvious flaw
Three-on-three overtime creates gorgeous skill moments, but teams have learned to circle out of the zone and hoard possession until the perfect change appears. It can turn from frantic to oddly cautious in seconds. I would add an over-and-back rule once a team crosses center with control. Keep the open ice, remove endless retreats, and make attacking decisions matter. Too gimmicky, or exactly the needed tweak?
