There are big European victories, and then there's what Como just did to Lens. A 9-1 away win is the kind of result that makes you stop scrolling and check the score again.
Douvikas helped himself to a hat-trick, but the most remarkable part is that this wasn't an isolated attacking performance. One European match earlier, Cesc Fàbregas' side had put four goals past Manchester United. That's 13 goals across two Champions League matches.
Think about that for a moment. Thirteen goals in two games is ridiculous, regardless of the opposition.
Of course, scoring nine against Lens doesn't automatically make Como genuine contenders for the trophy. There are much tougher tests ahead, and the defensive side of their game will eventually face some serious examination.
Still, opponents would be foolish to underestimate them. Como are playing with an attacking confidence that makes them an uncomfortable proposition for anyone. Their movement, finishing and willingness to keep pushing forward deserve plenty of credit.
Personally, I wouldn't be particularly thrilled about drawing Fàbregas' team right now. Nobody wants to face an opponent capable of turning a European evening into a nine-goal nightmare.
Are Como becoming genuine Champions League contenders, or should we wait until they face Europe's strongest defenses before getting carried away?
