Erling Haaland's Champions League numbers are becoming almost ridiculous. Sixty-two goals in 61 appearances is the latest milestone highlighted by Fabrizio Romano, and his winner against Leipzig was another reminder of why he's one of the most dangerous strikers in world football.
His 78th-minute strike secured a 3-2 victory for Manchester City, but the result wasn't nearly as comfortable as Pep Guardiola would have wanted.
Leipzig managed to fight back after falling behind twice, which should concern City supporters. Having the attacking quality to score three goals is one thing. Giving opponents repeated opportunities to drag themselves back into a match is something else entirely.
Haaland did exactly what you'd expect from an elite striker. When the opportunity arrived, he finished it. That's what separates the best goalscorers from everybody else. They don't need five chances to make their presence felt.
But City can't keep making life this difficult for themselves. Their defensive concentration needs to improve, particularly with the Champions League knockout rounds approaching. Against stronger opposition, those defensive lapses could prove much more expensive.
I'd take Haaland's finishing in my team every day of the week. However, even a striker scoring at this extraordinary rate shouldn't have to rescue his teammates every time the defense starts wobbling.
Are Manchester City still serious Champions League favorites, or are their defensive problems becoming too big to ignore despite Haaland's incredible scoring form?
